Acute Pain Management

Recognizing Acute Pain in Your Pet
Acute pain is intense and typically occurs suddenly, often due to surgery, injury, or illness. This type of pain serves as a warning sign, signaling that something is wrong. While acute pain usually resolves after the underlying issue heals, quick and effective management is crucial to prevent it from developing into chronic pain.
Since pets can’t vocalize their pain, it's important for owners to look out for signs of discomfort. Common indicators of acute pain include:
- Changes in behavior (e.g., irritability, aggression)
- Loss of appetite or refusal to eat
- Limping or favoring a limb
- Excessive licking or chewing at a certain area
- Changes in posture or reluctance to move
Chronic Pain Management
What is Chronic Pain?
- Reduced activity or reluctance to exercise
- Limping or favoring one side of the body
- Difficulty lying down or getting up
- Loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss
- Excessive licking or grooming, particularly around joints
- Irritability or increased aggression
- Restlessness, especially at night
If you notice any of these behaviors in your pet, please schedule an appointment so we can determine the cause of their discomfort and implement a treatment plan for long-term relief.
