Every Pet Comes First

A Different Kind of Veterinary Practice

WestVets Maxtown Veterinary Clinic was built on a simple belief: that exceptional veterinary medicine and a genuinely personal experience aren't mutually exclusive. You shouldn't have to choose between a clinic that knows your pet by name and one that has the clinical depth to handle whatever walks through the door.

WestVets Maxtown Veterinary Clinic began as a modestly established practice that grew gradually through early investments in clinical capabilities and essential veterinary services. In its formative years, the clinic focused on building a reliable medical foundation, expanding its diagnostic tools, surgical capacity, and treatment options as demand and experience grew. Over time, it progressed from a small operation into a fully equipped veterinary practice through the steady refinement of its medical services and infrastructure.

Who We Serve

We're located on State Route 3 in Westerville — and we're proud to serve as the neighborhood veterinary clinic for families throughout Westerville, Lewis Center, Galena, Sunbury, New Albany and the surrounding communities. This isn't a corporate chain. There's no revolving door of providers, no rushed appointments, no front desk that doesn't recognize your face. We're a practice that was built to feel like it belongs here — because it does.

We practice the Fear Free approach, which means every aspect of your pet's visit is designed to minimize stress and anxiety. From the way we move and speak in the exam room to how we handle routine procedures, we work deliberately to make veterinary care a better experience for your pet — visit by visit.

Fear Free Care in Practice

WestVets Maxtown Veterinary Clinic proudly brings Fear Free care into every appointment, helping pets feel more at ease from the moment they arrive. We know vet visits can feel overwhelming, so we focus on small, thoughtful steps that reduce stress and build confidence throughout the experience. With calm handling and a comfort-centric approach, we help pets accept exams and treatment by minimizing their fear. The result is smoother visits, better care, and a growing sense of trust each time your pet walks through our doors.

Our Doctor

WestVets Maxtown Veterinary Clinic is led by Dr. Steve Horvath, a Toledo native who earned his zoology degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and his DVM from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Before returning to private practice, Dr. Horvath spent five and a half years on faculty at OSU's College of Veterinary Medicine, teaching general medicine, surgery, and dentistry.

Dr. Steve Horvarth

Dr. Steve spent several years in Columbus working in small animal and exotic practice before returning to Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where he taught general medicine, surgery, and dentistry for 5.5 years. He has since returned to private practice, bringing a strong focus on dental care. He lives in Clintonville with his husband, Brad, where they share life with their energetic dogs. Outside of work, he enjoys soccer, gardening, bonsai, aquascaping, travel, and creating murals as Doctor Steve Art around the city.

Dr. Brittany Schepak

Dr. Brittany Schepak grew up in a small Michigan town surrounded by pets, which sparked her early interest in animal care. She has worked in both general practice and urgent care and, most recently, has served as a relief veterinarian across clinics in central Ohio, supporting a wide range of cases. She lives in Lewis Center with her husband, Joel, and their two cats, Quinn and Maowi. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, crafting, cozy video games, and visiting friends and family in Michigan.

What to Expect

When you walk into Maxtown, you'll notice it doesn't feel like a corporate veterinary office. It feels like a place that was designed with care — because it was. Our team takes time. We ask questions, we listen to your answers, and we explain what we find in plain language. We don't rush you out the door.

Serving Our Community

Maxtown was opened because the communities north of Westerville deserved a veterinary option that was close, personal, and genuinely excellent. We serve pet families in Westerville, Galena, Sunbury, Alum Creek, Harlem, and the surrounding area — and we're glad you found us.
